 Happy Birthday John!

2/8/2017

Comments

Our activity in February-17  Kalos members dedicated to John Ruskin.
Picture
Author of "The Stones of Venice" and "Into this last", John Ruskin was one of the favourite authors of Leo Tolstoy, who used more than 100 of John's quotes in just one of his works - the famous "Wise Thoughts for Every Day" , and greatly influenced Mahatma Gandi, who translated "Into this Last" to Hindu. He was born February 8th and on this day we celebrate the birthday of an exceptional human thinker who was also a painter, art-critic and Seer, centuries ahead of his time.

How come its happens, that one Scottish protean artist inspired some of the greatest minds all around the world, and after more than 100 years his heritage is only ncreasing in value? Some like an answer we'll publish in quotes of John Ruskin below.

Post will be updated during the month, and now we going to celebrate and discuss the ideas - to arrange the educational art-meetings of this Enlightener from Edinburgh. Check the news here on Kalos, enjoy Light Portions Giveaways on psy.in - free to download art-photos, Moon & stars paintings and pictures of light natures in high quality.

Also you can leave your favourite quote of John Ruskin which is not yet mentioned with the link-source, and we'll add it later. Have a great February in a year of fire Rooster!

First from the most - 6 quotes of Ruskin on Wikiquote - from Tolstoy's book

  • You cannot do anything wonderful driven by competition; you cannot do anything noble from pride.
  • You may not sell your talent, your genius; as soon as you do, you are a prostitute. You may sell your work, but not your soul.
  • Science fulfills its purpose, not when it explains the reasons for the dark spots on the sun, but when it understands and explains the laws of our own life, and the consequences of violating these laws.
  • Beware of those who want to convince you that it is impossible to strive for good just because it is impossible to reach perfection.
  • One of the major obstacles impeding any positive future change in our lives is that we are too busy with our current work or activity.
  • False shame ... is even worse than false pride - pride can support evil, but false shame stops goodness.
