We found our river bungalow in Ta Ling Chan just by chance, while went from the island of Koh Phangan to visit big waterfall on mainland - "it was noted on 1000 Baht" - told us the man on a boat, taking out and showing us the banknote - there was a big dam -recently was new issue of money and picture was changed...
It was already dark night, when I saw the road turn and a sign to the national park & waterall. After few km I notices lights on a road and the poster with time of work on Thai language - intuition told us that its can be a place to overnight stay. It was right feeling - we've got the clean room in concrete bungalow for cheap small price and after short break decided to drive at night until the road end - to hear the roar of fallen water and feel its refreshing breeze.
Next morning we woke up going to check out from our bungalow, saw the river panorama, reminded about 1 way road to the park and decided to prolong our stay for 1 more night - we should pass this place anyway on a way back to our home on the island. To sleep near the river was so sweet that this one more day wasn't enough, owners shows us the wooden bungalow - what was even better, and we agreed to stay a week more there.
Few days after I was walking down on a river and collected there few beautiful stones. One fo them has a form of linga. I remembered, that there were few more linga-stones there downstairs, That days we were travelling up and down by river flow intensively , looking also for the similar stones to observe the area's formation - I didn't see any linga-stones, however all of the others were similar.
When I went down to the river I brought few more stone-lingas from there, few more I put to vertical position, laying by other stones around. Lingas has different colours and material. In a same time I was reading and learning about linga-formed stones and found whole source of knowledge - during the long period in ancient times people from various cultures all around the world has a cult of Linga, calling it "Lingam", "Omphalos"" and by other names. The most respected were the places, where the lingams were made by nature that places always were considered as "sacred" - even until nowadays. This includes the area where I was born and where I lived most of my life while travelling.
Moreoover, as I found later - all that various modern countries was a parts of one great ancient Aryan Empire. So to learn more about appearance of usage of lingas became also the learning about my and others roots and beliefs of ancestors (to which I already had a big respect and trust after other previous investigations).
There are 1 more occurence happens with us, what I feel good to mention. On a first day of our travel we visited one of the clay shops on a street and - more not to leave without purchase - bought there golden-colored statuette of Gods family - Shiva, Parvati and their small child Ganesha between them. Weeks later I noticed small lingam on a Shiva's feet.
Soon after we went to the city - capital of province, and saw the big celebration - central road was closed for the big evening show. It was 15 April, and people celebrated Nang Kradan Festival - New Year in bramin religion which honours the god Shiva (""Phra Isuan" in Thai). It was the only place in a country left where this festival celebrated.
Few days after (yes, we spoke with our river hoteliers and rented the bungalow for the month) we visited Khao Kha - the central spiritual spot of ancient Ligor kingdom. In a small museum we saw remains of big ancient lingas, few more lingas and statues were transported to the city museums. Times ago this place was full of people on some days, now its a monument of old civilization, which still keeps the spirit.
Next I start a quest - why and how stone-lingas could appears just on some defined river's area? Locals said that "Ling" in district name means something not-related to subject, in which they weren't interested. We continue to speak and ask the community, prefer to contact with the oldest among them,.Later we've met the abbot of vast magnificent Buddhist temple nearby. Phra Ajan also is the man who found it. He told us that this river considered as a sacred among ancient great Kings, who visited its source near the biggest waterfall (Krung Ching - one which we initially was going to visit) to run there the rite before their coronation to the Throne. I wrote this story.
Friend of mine has a degree in Geology - he've got it in Sybiria and lived in Academic city of Novosibirsk. He explained to me main things about the river stones - its round shape means great distance stones passed to be here, and when they're round and flat - means that stone lies on same place for long time. How long? - depends on material and the force of the river flow.
After all, the conclusion I come about of appearance of the stone-lingas - River herself creating it, polishing stones with its water-flow. For long time since very ancient, local people were worshiped to river, as they do even now at Loi Krathong day, encouraging the river.
